Our Story
Your Garden Guide started with a simple belief: that having the right person to walk beside you on your gardening journey can genuinely change how you feel about yourself, and about being at home.
Something bigger began to grow.
Founder, Haidi Spence, is a gardener by nature. Her love of the outdoors was shaped early, growing up on a vast cattle farm in rural New South Wales, Australia, where resourcefulness was a way of life and a connection to the land was simply part of growing up.
That instinct followed her into a career spanning over 20 years across Australia and New Zealand — from public and private gardens to commercial nurseries, historical rose gardens, and a nationwide ecological revegetation programme.
Along the way, she developed a deep appreciation of how plants, soil, and the seasons work together. When she turned that expertise toward helping home gardeners in the Nelson/Tasman region, she discovered the shared joy of growing with people in their own backyards. Then something bigger began to grow.
